What do high schools, middle schools, colleges, and universities have in common? Bathrooms. What do all humans have in common? The need to go to the bathroom. Where do people spend 30-60 minutes daily? The bathroom. When are there no distractions? While going to the bathroom. Hence, Stall Studio was born.
Stall Studio's mission is for members of your school to positively influence others and create a sense of community through art, writing, and other student work. Very simply, original entries are printed and displayed in acrylic folios attached to the back of bathroom stall doors.
This program was initiated, and is still managed, by Paul Leheste during his time as a residence assistant at the University of Minnesota. The program filled a need to build community and improve mental health amongst residents in a dorm hall. It gained traction with the students and quickly became an integral part of that building's student programming. Stall Studio builds off students' desire to create and connect with those around them. It makes use of an everyday moment of undivided attention to do this.
Feedback gained during Stall Studio's time at the University of Minnesota has been influential in shaping the program into its current form. We are always working to improve our methods and materials by collaborating with educators and students.
Our goal is to partner with schools and colleges across the country to make Stall Studio a nationally recognized program. Too many students lack the community and positivity they need for successful development. All the tools you need to implement Stall Studio in your institution are available under the resources tab. Join us in reaching this goal.
We hope to hear from you soon!
